Add Content using the New Rich Content Editor in Canvas

Canvas recently (on 1/16/21) replaced their content editor with the New RCE (Rich Content Editor). This page focuses on getting instructors, designers, and TAs up and running with the New RCE by covering the most frequently used workflows.

Embedding a My Media Video in the RCE

Videos saved to My Media can be added to any page, announcement, assignment, discussion, quiz, etc via the New Rich Content Editor.

In your Canvas course, go to your page, announcement, assignment, discussion, or quiz.

  1. Click the  Edit  button
  2. Click on the plugin icon in the second row toolbar
    • Click on the View All option if prompted
  3. Click on the app's name (ie, Media Gallery)
  4. Locate the video on the My Media list and then click the </>Embed button
  5. When done, click either:
    • Save - if you're not ready to make visible to students, or
