Turnitin

Turnitin is a plagiarism-prevention service which checks student documents for unoriginal content. The results can be used to identify similarities to existing sources or can be used to help students learn how to avoid plagiarism and improve their writing. You have the option of using the Classic version of Turninit, or using the Turnitin Plagiarism Framework in Canvas. Similar to Turnitin "Classic," the Plagiarism Framework provides a similarity report on a student's submission, but feedback, including the use of rubrics and peer review is done through Canvas. The Plagiarism Framework integration also allows the submission of group assignments.

Using Turnitin in Your Course

If you are using Turnitin for your course, it is recommended that you place the following language from UC San Diego's Academic Integrity Office in your syllabus:

"Students agree that by taking this course all required papers will be subject to submission for textual similarity review to Turnitin.com for the detection of plagiarism. All submitted papers will be included as source documents in the Turnitin.com reference database solely for the purpose of detecting plagiarism of such papers. Use of the Turnitin.com service is subject to the terms of use agreement posted on the Turnitin.com site."
