Instructional Tools
Canvas is UC San Diego's learning management system. Instructors can communicate with students, provide course materials, administer assignments and assessments, and track grades using Canvas.
Canvas supports the integration of third-party tools like Turnitin, Gradescope, and iClicker to enhance the classroom experience. Learning Tool Interoperability (LTI) allows for the exchange of information between learning management systems (LMS) and an external resource.
As LTIs may exchange Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) sensitive information, LTIs will need to be vetted before being integrated within Canvas. If a particular tool is not on this list, there may be a similar tool already installed.
Other instructional tools that can be used outside of Canvas may also be vetted to help ensure student information is protected. For more about the vetting process and to see which tools have been approved for use, not recommended, or under review, please visit Instructional Tool Guidance.
